Don Gosz was a head coach at the high school level in Wisconsin for 25 years and also was an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin - Madison for two years. The highlight of his coaching career was at Whitefish Bay Dominican High School when his teams won 62 consecutive games - a state boys record - and two WISAA state championships.

He was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Hall of Fame in 1981.

Coach Gosz is presently the dean of Wisconsin summer basketball camp directors, having served in that capacity for 41 consecutive years.

Jim Gosz will begin his 22nd year as an associate director. This season will be his 18th as head boys' coach at Milwaukee King High School, one of the state's powerhouses.

In his 18 years at King, the Generals have amassed a sparkling 365-67 record, winning four WIAA Division 1 state championships and placing second on two other occasions. During that time, King captured nine Milwaukee City Conference championships and had a 52 game conference winning streak. In addition, 21 players have gone on to play at the Division 1 or 2 level and one in the NBA.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel named him their area "Coach of the Year" in 1995 and again in 2003.

King finished the 2003 and 2004 seasons ranked by "USA Today" among the top 25 high schools in the nation. The Generals were ranked as high as #4 in 2004 by that publication.

Last spring Jim was selected head coach of the McDonald's High School All-American Boys' Basketball team.

Mike Gosz will begin his 16th year as an associate director.

He was the head girls' coach at Sussex-Hamilton High School for the last 10 years. Prior to that, he served as the assistant head coach for the boys' program and two years as an assistant for the UW-Whitewater men's program.

During his first year as girls' head coach at Sussex-Hamilton, his team qualified for the sectional tournament.

He was chosen as an assistant coach for the WBCA All-Star games in 1999.

Mike's new video, "Fundamentals First", produced in 2005 is a two hour film featuring many INDIVIDUAL ball handling, dribbling, shooting, low post and perimeter moves and some team/group passing, pivoting and shooting drills. These skills are so necessary in the development of a young basketball player and also for a person interested in coaching young players.

Mike will again coordinate our shooting camps. Under his leadership, we anticipate they will be as successful as they have been the last seven summers. Over 1,000 campers have attended this type of camp.

A NOTE FROM DON GOSZ
"25 rooms have been reserved in the LaQuinta SUITES for the June 14-17 girls session that feature separate sitting and sleeping areas, 27" TV's in each room, sleeper sofa, microwave, and refrigerator.

No other camp that I am familiar with can match these lodging facilities! These rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis for those campers requesting THREE TO FOUR in a room.

As you may have noticed from the first page of our brochure, our camp at UW-Whitewater this year has changed from a four-day session to a three-day one. This particular camp will consist of two parts: shooting and offensive skills. After registration on Friday afternoon, we will begin our shooting session with the breakdown of the camper's shot, followed by a video tape of the shot and then a written critique and an analysis of the proper ways to improve the shot. The two hour evening session will offer a review of what was done in the afternoon session, followed by group shooting leagues and contests.

Our Saturday session will feature offensive skills, whereby the campers will be instructed with their group coach in ball handling passing and dribbling drills.

Games will be held both evening and Sunday morning before our contest finals and awards presentation that ends the camp. It promises to be a fun-filled learning experience for you who join us!

P.S. ALL DIRECTORS WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE AT EACH CAMP.

COMMENTS FROM PARENTS OF 2007 & 2008 CAMPERS

(Permission to use these statements was granted by the individuals listed below.)

"As a 9 year veteran of your camps, it is a pleasure to see my children participating and benefiting from them. My wife and I are impressed with the emphasis you camps put on the fundamentals of basketball. It seems these basics are forgotten so often now, and you are applauded for focusing on them. Our children have walked away from your camp as better basketball players compared to when they walked in. Thanks to you and your staff."
Dave and Brenda Schumacher, Whitewater
"I would like to take a moment and thank you for helping my son and daughter understand through a "positive attitude" and "hard work" that dreams can become a reality. Your quality basketball camp helped give my children the edge they need to succeed in this ever more competitive arena. Your ball handling techniques, passing drills, shooting drills along with a very talented coaching staff made for an excellent overall basketball experience for my children, one that they'll be looking forward to experiencing every year."
Mike Horn, Winneconne
"My two daughters (Marissa, age 16 and Karley, age 14) have attended Don Gosz Camps for the last four years. What a positive experience! WOW! Solid foundations in basic fundamentals, along with a personal touch, make this camp well worth attending year after year. My girls loved it!
Dr. Pete Hehli, Appleton
"Excellent transfer of skills to their school team... kept us coming back the last three summers. After attending the Don Gosz basketball camps, my girls were able to stay motivated throughout the summer months and continue practicing the skills and drills necessary to compete at a higher level.
Steve and Karen Maahs, Hartland
